Hi all! Happy New Year! Our apologies about the blog subscription not sending out emails for the past many months. There was a bug that was preventing the notification emails from being sent out. I think that we’ve solved it. You should have received a notification on January 2, 2020 about this post, and also about Kristyn’s newsletter post. If you didn’t, try checking your spam folders, or resubscribing using the form in the top right corner of the blog. (You have to do this on a computer and not a phone or tablet).
Thanks so much for being patient. The Interwebz sometimes elude me 🙂
Happy New Year! Our first guild meeting of the year will be on Sunday, January 12th at 11:00 am at Quilt in a Day in San Marcos.
If you still need to register for the 2020 year, please fill out our registration form and pay the $50 dues to be a fully registered guild member. The form and other information can be found on this blog post: Guild Registration
Our January newsletter is up and has a lot of information about the upcoming meeting, so be sure to check it out!
We will be opening registration for our annual June guild retreat at noon on Sunday, January 12th. More information is about this is in the newsletter. There will be a blog post with all of that information and a link to register on the 12th.
There will be a pouch swap after the January meeting. Bring any type, style, or size of pouch to the meeting in a brown paper bag and we will have a blind swap.
Hope to see everyone on the 12th!

Just as a reminder, we will not be having our usual guild meeting on Sunday, December 8th at Quilt in a Day, as we are having our holiday party off site. Members should have received an invite to the party – if you haven’t, please check your spam folder as it may have gone there or email the board and we can follow up for you.
Our usual sew-ins will be happening this month as well – some dates/times need to be added as we get it from the particular location, but all are still happening.
Our annual holiday party for guild members is coming up in just a few short months on Sunday, December 8th at the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens in Vista. More information about the event will be coming soon.
We will also be having our annual mini quilt swap at the holiday party. Sign ups and more information about the swap will be made available on the blog on Sunday, September 8th. Sign ups will be live for one week and then partner pairings will be sent out after that point.
We have a last minute addition for an East County Sew In, which will be taking place tomorrow Saturday, August 3rd from 1:00pm – 5:00pm at the Lemon Grove Library. We are working to make this a regular space to sew at, so if you’re able to make it tomorrow, please join us!
Our other new sew in will take place at the Mission Bay Sewing Machines Plus in the evening. We have this space on Tuesday, August 13th from 3:00pm – 7:30pm – future sew in dates can be found in the newsletter. This sew in will cost $5 per person to attend.
2020 Birthday Club
We will be running our guild birthday club again this upcoming year. Birthday club sign ups will be taking place at the August and September guild meetings. At the October meeting, you will receive your group members information and their FQ requests. You will bring back your group’s FQs in a designated bag at the November meeting. Then, on your birthday month in 2020, you’ll receive a bag of FQs from each member of your group!
If you wish to join in on the birthday club, you will just need to fill out the short form at a guild meeting. As part of the birthday club, you will be in a group of 12 individuals and on your birthday month, you will receive a bag of fat quarters based on your indicated likes from the sign up form.
*It’s fun and easy – shop your stash or purchase to meet your members wishes, and of course keep it modern.*
We are excited to be bringing Latifah Saafir and Jen Carlton-Bailly to the guild for some workshops in August and September.
Latifah will be presenting her Glam Clam pattern in a workshop on Saturday, August 17th from 9:00 – 4:00 at Quilt in a Day. The workshop is $100 and includes the lunch. Signups for this workshop are open – for more information about this class or to sign up, check out the blog post here: Glam Clam Workshop
Jen Carlton-Bailly will be coming to San Diego in September and will be teaching two curved piecing workshops. Sign ups for the Jen Carlton-Bailly classes will open up on the blog on Sunday, July 14th at 12:00pm.
The first will take place on Saturday, September 14th from 9:30-3:30 at Quilt in a Day. The cost of this class is $100 and includes lunch. She will be teaching her Caution! Curves Ahead class, where participants will learn to sew all types of curves:
Does the idea of sewing curves scare the heck out of you? Don’t let it! In this class, students will learn different methods of sewing curves and lots of tips and tricks that will make it FUN and EASY! We’ll talk about how to square up blocks and sew them together with beautiful matching points. Students will leave addicted to curves wanting to make all the quilts. These blocks are some of the ones we will learn how to make!
Jen will also be teaching a hand sewing class, Curvlets on Sunday, September 15th from 11:00-3:00 at Quilt in a Day. The cost of this class is $50 and does not include lunch.
Curvlets Class Description: Slow down, take a seat, quiet your mind and start stitching. In this curvy hand sewing class you’ll learn how to prep your project, use templates for marking, and tips and tricks on cutting sewing. We’ll be working in small scale, 1 1⁄2”, but if you’d like to go bigger the technique is the same and will be accommodated. You’ll leave this class in love with hand sewing and eager to bring it with you everywhere!
Just as a reminder, our June meeting will be taking place this Sunday, June 2nd, instead of our usual second Sunday, as we have our retreat taking place that weekend. We will be having our guild rummage sale after the meeting, so come with your items priced to sell (and with your name on them) and be ready to buy some new to you items!
Reminder: We will not be having our usual guild business meeting this Sunday, May 12th, as it is Mother’s Day. We will be having a sew in and potluck at Quilt in a Day from 11am – 4pm. Bring your sewing and a dish to share!
