We are so excited to be hosting a Libs Elliott workshop on Sunday, December 9 at Quilt in a Day, San Marcos. This will be a full day workshop; 9am-4pm.
Here’s the description from Libs herself:
Embrace the Chaos – An Exercise in Controlled Randomness
Using only paper and pencils – no computers required! – I will walk students through a series of worksheet exercises that mimic the programming language I use to generate my quilt patterns. By using controlled elements in a random way, each participant will end up with a unique quilt pattern layout – no two Chaos Quilts are the same!
As a group, we’ll discuss design flow and tweak our individual layouts. Then we’ll cut fabrics and work on piecing our designs, using provided block-building instructions. At the end of the class, each participant will leave with her/his own random geometric quilt design and will have the knowledge required to complete the project at home.
1 Full-Day Session allows time for drafting, design and initial block construction. Level: All Levels
At this time, we are accepting registration from dues-paying SDMQG members. If there are still seats available, we will open the workshop up to the entire quilting community in the next few weeks.
There are 20 seats available for this workshop, at a cost of $100, which will include a catered lunch.
Registration is easy and uses our two step registration system:
1. Register yourself here.
2. Pay for your workshop by Venmo (@sdmodernquiltguild), PayPal ([email protected]), or by cash or cheque to a board member. Please note that you are not considered to be registered until we have received payment. Spots are non-refundable unless filled by the waitlist.
Awesome news! The San Diego Quilt show has extended their deadline to July 31!!!!! YOU can still qualify to be in our raffle for a SWEET prize!
Also, anyone who has already entered a quilt in the San Diego Quilt Show and did not include a group that they can email Clara@[email protected] and she will see that the quilts are hung together.
SDMQG will not be able to have their sew in for July. Eleanor is running a special class that weekend.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Sue
We voted to amend our bylaws and include a VP of Geographic Outreach at our meeting yesterday. The person filling this position would be in charge of setting up social activities in regions of the county that are not where the guild meets for regular meetings (currently San Marcos). Cohni Corazon has expressed interest in being nominated to fill the position at our elections in October. Until then, the executive board has appointed her to the position.
American Patchwork & Quilting Two-Color Quilt Challenge
For this challenge, participants are asked to create quilts with only two colors. Enter your quilts to the two-color challenge category at QuiltCon for up to $1,000 in prizes!
Volunteer sign ups start July 11!
Come join us on Sunday, July 8th at 11am for a meeting and sew-in at Quilt in a Day.
We will be voting on the addition of a Vice President of Geographic Outreach to the executive board, as well as other fun activities! See you there!
Time to sign up and volunteer for a two to four hour shift and get in free!
Check the website to sign up. www.sandiegoquiltshow.com
Think about a sponsorship for as low as $50. Have a ribbon named after you, get an ad in the program and website etc.
Classes are filling fast so check now and make your plan.
And a reminder: DEADLINE for entries is July 15th so let’s flood that show with our quilts.
AND, the guest artist for next year has just been signed and they make very contemporary quilts so I think many of our members will like that. More details soon.
Jenny H. will be hosting our next QAL, which is the Russell Quilt.
She thought we couldn’t start until August, but it turns out, she can start in July! So, feel free to bring your ideas and fabrics to our July meeting (or start in August!).
