Sue Bouchard opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. We had one new member who came to us by way of Massachusetts, and one visitor.
Worldly Activities – Upcoming Events
- San Diego County Fair – Entries are due by May 4, 2026
- Visions Museum of Textile Art
- Mingei Museum – Restitched, Feed Sacks in Mid-Twentieth Century Quilts, exhibit through May 10, 2026
- Poway Center for the Performing Arts – Beyond the Canvas exhibit showcasing art quilts by members of the Southern CA/NV region of Studio Art Quilt Associates, through April 4, 2026
Membership
Everyone needs to renew now, otherwise they will be dropped from the roster. The Modern Quilt Guild needs our membership information this week.
Charity
Kristyn Jansen presented the charity update:
- First Trimester Outreach Focus: Woven Square Blocks for Ronald McDonald House. The group blocks are due now. They may be brought to the April meeting. Directions for the blocks are on the website. Quilts for the Ronald McDonald House can be any size. Additional information about this charity can be found on the Ronald McDonald House page.
- Meals On Wheels: We are making placemats and potholders. Directions are available on our website. We split our donation between North County and Metro Service Centers. Kristyn is still working on the directions for the tray cozies.
- Charity Sew-In April 26, 11:00-3:00 at Quilt in a Day. Come and help sew the group charity blocks. There are several jobs and all are welcome to help!
- Gently Hugged – Shelly Hoffman chas2454@aol.com heads up this charity which helps moms with infants in the first year. Quilts need to be 36 x 40”. They also collect new and gently used baby clothing up to size 18 month.
- Ukraine – Melodee Cartin mdcrkc@aol.com continues to collect new and gently used quilts which are sent off to Ukraine to help those in need.
- Solid Challenge – Susan Kephart has challenged us all to make a charity lap or twin sized quilt using solids. To start it off, she has packets with fabrics and patterns to encourage us all to participate. These were available after the meeting.
Activities
Sue Bouchard highlighted the current activities:
Retreat
- Retreat sign ups began in March. An email was sent to current members for sign-ups.
- Retreat dates are May 28 – 31, 2026 at Vina de Lestonnac Retreat Center, Temecula
- Members can choose 4 days/3 nights, 3 days/2 nights, or day sewing Friday and/or Saturday.
- There will be a pop-up shop with Cecile from Sewing Party on Saturday, May 30.
Second Saturday Sewing/Workshops
- This occurs each month at Grand Central Quilt and Stitch, 100 North Rancho Santa Fee Road, San Marcos, 10 am – 3:30 pm
- March 14, 2026 – Sue Bouchard will teach a class on bag making and zippers. $25 for instructions and fabric. Sue will provide everything so that participants can just sew! She will send out a confirmation to all those who sign up. The class is limited because of space. Class goes from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm – bring your own lunch. - May 9, 2026 – Ann Albertson will explore the Drunkards path block. Signups will be available soon. She’s hoping to use two days, one for making the blocks and the next for arranging them.
- Coming this year – Cecile from Sewing Party will share her design process.
- Cecile from Sewing Party will teach a double wedding ring class in the future.
Quilt Along
Sue’s Quilt Along, Quilt Tribe – Quilting without Reservations, started today the end of the meeting. The sew-along will continue through October. The cost is $25 to offset the cost of printing the instructions. There is still time to join. See the Quilt Tribe 2026 Sew Along page for more information, including the signup link.
South x Southwest
Thirteen people signed up for the quilt swap with the Denver and Austin modern guilds. Quilts are due at the April 2026 meeting.
Raffle and Sew & Tell
We saw many beautiful quilt tops and tops today. What a talented group of quilters! Come and join us the second Sunday of the month (except May) at 11:30am at Quilt in A day. We would love to have you visit!
