Membership
Linda asked that all 2026 memberships be completed by the end of January 2026. People can renew or join using the link on our membership page. Contact Linda Isley or e-mail sdmqgboard@gmail.com if you have questions.
Financials
Treasurer, Suzanne Coyne, shared the 2025 budget and actual numbers. The guild had $1,000 more income than projected. This was due in part to members paying for lunch at the holiday party, and from the sale of donated fabric. This surplus will be used for the guild’s ongoing charity work.
Suzanne suggested a few changes for the 2026 budget, namely decreasing the amount projected for meeting prizes, increasing the proposed income from the Quiltcon Community Outreach quilt project, and increasing the website line item to cover the biennial licensing fee for GoDaddy.com.
Courtney asked for volunteers to review the financials, which should be done annually. Jill Lombard and Amanda Whited volunteered to do this. Thanks to both of them!
Website
Our new website, sdmodernquiltguild.com is up and running. There is a lot of information there so be sure to check it out.
Modern Quilt Guild website: Members of the SDMQG guild are automatically a member of the Modern Quilt Guild and can access their website, http://themodernquiltguild.com. You’ll find useful information, tutorials and challenges.
Help Needed
We need help setting up and taking down for each meeting. Many hands make the jobs much easier! E-mail sdmqgboard@gmail.com or talk to a board member if you are interested in helping. Thank you to those who have been helping!
Activities
Monthly Workshops
VP of Activities, Sue Bouchard, has arranged for our guild to have a workroom at Grand Central Quilt N Stitch the Saturday before our meetings. On January 10, 2026, she taught a class on transparency for members who had signed up. She plans to invite other teachers to participate during the year. See the Workshops page for more information, including dates.
Sampler Quilt Sew Along
Beginning at the March 2026 meeting, Sue will have a sew-along that will run through October 2026. Under Sue’s tutelage, members receive instructions for each block and learn how to change the size of the blocks (6”, 9”, 12”). See the Workshops page for more information.
UFO Swap
At the conclusion of the February 8, 2026 meeting, we will have a UFO Swap. Start checking your UFO’s to see which unfinished projects you are ready to pass on to someone else.
Show Up
One of the ways to get to know others is to just show up. We have a Sew-In after each meeting as well as on the fourth Sunday of each month, plus the monthly workshops. These are great ways to meet other members and to get involved. All members are invited to the Sew-Ins and workshops!

Upcoming Charity Projects
- 1st Trimester Outreach Focus: Each trimester we have a group quilt project where directions for a quilt block are provided and you can choose to sew a block (or more) from your stash or from provided block kits. This trimester we are making Woven Square Blocks. Blocks are due back at the March meeting. Directions for the blocks are on the website.
- Meals On Wheels Special Project: We’ve been asked to make bowl cozies that fit the frozen meal trays that go into the microwave. Charity Coordinator, Kristyn Jansen, is finalizing the directions for making the cozies and will let members know when the instructions are available to start making them.
- Gently Hugged – Our contact and point person for this charity is Shelly Hoffman, chas2454@aol.com Details for this project are on the Gently Hugged page on our website.
- Wrap the World in Quilts – Melodee Cartin (mdcrkc@aol.com) is still collecting quilts for Ukraine.
Other Charity News
- Cat Beds – We are going to pause (or paws!) the cat bed collections for now.
- Just In Time and Moores Cancer Center will be the second and third trimester charities, respectively.
