Activities

2026 Quilt Along, Sue’s Quilt Tribe –  Sue Bouchard passed out the final instructions for completing the quilt.  She showed quilt examples using the 6”, 9” and 12” size blocks.

The 2027 Quilt Along will be the Show and Tell quilt by Elizabeth Hartman.  Sue will share the fabric measurements needed and her organization methods.  Each participant will need to purchase the book – she is inquiring about a group discount on the pattern. Information will be coming as the beginning of the year gets closer.

Valentine postcards – Sue is planning a workshop for 2027.

Susan Kephart’s November 14, 2026 Zig Zag quilt workshop still has room.

Holiday Party – The party is Sunday, December 6, 2026 beginning at 11:30. Sign-ups were available at the meeting. An email to all members will be forthcoming with a link to sign up.

All about scraps with Jen Collins – Since the scrap swap followed today’s meeting, Jen shared information for organizing scraps, and ways to make them more cohesive in a quilt.  She shared several scrap quilts that demonstrated the use of scraps by color or by repetition in the quilt.  She gave us ways to organize by color, warm, cool, or neutral.  One tip was to keep the scraps flat in a storage tote, rather than just thrown in the tote – it is much more likely to be used as you can easily see what is in the bin.  Ideas for starting to use scraps included Scrap Bash from Lo & Behold Stitchery (she hosts one each year), making a sampler quilt, creating a leader/ender project.  Her information was well received by the group!

Charity

The third trimester focus is Moores Cancer Center.  The quilts are used by patients receiving treatment and can be a variety of sizes.  The group Corner Cabin blocks are due at the November 8, 2026 meeting.

Meals on Wheels – Kristyn will be delivering the placemats and pot holders at the end of the year.

Directions for all of the charitable projects are on the charity page of the website.

Member Spotlight

Each of the board members shared a few quilts or projects they have done over time.

Linda Isley (VP of Operations) shared her quilting and crocheting, including an incredible king size crocheted bedcover.

Elizabeth O’Toole (Secretary) shared three quilts where mistakes had abounded and lessons learned.

Courtney Miller-Callihan (President) had three projects she never plans to complete, giving us all permission to stop when you just don’t like what you are making.

Suzanne Coyne (Treasurer) shared her first quilt, a Minecraft quilt she designed for her son and a darling tote she uses for her sewing tools.

Sue Bouchard (VP of Activities) shared a quilt she had displayed at QuiltCon in Austin and had us all laughing with her Sunbonnet Sue presentation – not Sue’s favorite block!

Sew & Tell

As it happens each month, many beautiful quilts, bags, and apparel, were shared by members.  This is such a talented group of people!

Scrap Swap

For the scrap swap, we had four tables – one each for notions, larger pieces (5″ square and larger), strings, and crumbs – allowing people more space to see the items.  After hearing Jen’s presentation on scraps, many of us were eager to see what was there!

The next meeting is Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 11:30 am at Quilt in a Day.  We hope you can attend!

Sew-In

Following the meeting, there is a sew-in for the afternoon.  There is a second sew-in the 4th Sunday of each month.  Come and join us!
