Business – By-laws review
The Modern Quilt Guid requires specific wording in our by-laws to support our IRS 501(c)(3) designation. The updated by-laws were sent to members through email. Today, the members voted for adoption of the new by-laws. The motion to adopt the new by-laws was made by Amanda Whited and seconded by Sue Bouchard. The by-laws were approved unanimously. Courtney Miller-Callihan will send them to Angela Dufresne to post on the website.
Charity
Kristyn Jansen noted that this is our last month to make quilts for the Ronald McDonald House for this year’s first trimester focus. Instructions are located here: https://sdmodernquiltguild.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/2026-RMH-Group-Block.pdf
The Meals on Wheels placemats and pot holders collection will continue. Instructions are located here: https://sdmodernquiltguild.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Meals-on-Wheels-Instructions.pdf.
April 26, 2026 – Charity sew-in at Quilt in a Day from 11-3:45. Come join Kristyn Jansen and others to make and complete several ongoing projects. Kristyn has the blocks, tops, and fabric. She needs our help to get the quilts done so they can be delivered. Come and join the fun!
Next trimester’s focus is Just In Time. More information will be coming. If you want to get started early, they need throw and twin size quilts!
Activities
Second Saturday Workshops
- April 11, 2026: Yesterday’s bird class at Grand Central Stitch and Quilt was a success!
- May 9, 2026: Ann Albertson’s variations on the Drunkard Path block. There is a limit of 15 attendees so sign up soon!
- June 13, 2026: Cecile Choi, the owner of Sewing Party, will present variations on the Double Wedding Ring. Sign ups will be available soon.
Retreat
So far, there are twenty-seven people enrolled in the retreat. There are openings for day sewers on Friday, Saturday, or Friday/Saturday. More people requested single rooms than are available. Sue will email everyone that signed up to figure out room arrangements to make sure everyone has a place to sleep! Cecile Choi, the owner of Sewing Party, will be hosting a Pop-Up shop on the Saturday at the guild retreat.
Transparency Quilts
Those who participated in the transparency mini quilt swap with the Denver and Austin modern quilt guilds shared their quilts today before turning them in to be sent out. Many creative ideas!
Raffle and Sew & Tell
After our door prize raffle, quite a few people shared their latest creations. We saw bags with zippers and amazing quilts and tops. We are so lucky to have such talented members who are willing to share their work! Well done!
After the Meeting
Ann Albertson met with those signed up for her drunkard’s path class to go over fabric sizes needed and cutting instructions so that the day of the class enrollees could spend their time sewing.
Sue Bouchard continued with her Quilt Tribe 2026 Sew Along. Today she introduced five more blocks. It’s not too late to sign up for this class!
Don’t forget, there is NO May San Diego Modern Quilt Guild meeting! There will be a sew-in on May 10, 2026 instead at Quilt in a Day. Enjoy your Mother’s Day!
